Winter CSA 2019-2020
Boldly Grown Farm specializes in growing fall and winter crops. Our winter CSA is a chance for you to receive a regular supply of high-quality, locally grown, organic veggies during a time of year when local produce tends to be less abundant.
Why CSA? CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture, is a model in which members pay up front for a share of the season's harvest and, in return, receive a regular supply of produce throughout the season. CSAs help farmers by guaranteeing a market for their crops and providing cash flow to cover the season's expenses. Members benefit by receiving fresh, healthy, local produce and by becoming attuned to what can be grown seasonally in their region—gaining a greater understanding of where their food comes from, how it's grown, and what it takes to go from seed to plate.
New for 2018! We're expanding our Winter CSA into Bellingham this year, as well as extending the program through the end of March (12 boxes in total). And, in addition to our biweekly winter share, we're also offering a bulk box in November and January. We are also offering the opportunity for members to join us in donating shares to those in need.
CSA Share - Biweekly Option
Share size We offer one share size that's delivered every other week. We estimate this share works well for 2-3 adults (or a family of four) who like their veggies. We don't generally recommend splitting a share between households (as many items don't divide up easily and you will miss out on the full CSA experience), but we've had members do it with success.
What's in the box? Our winter CSA provides you with certified organic staple veggies that are in-season and locally available in Western Washington over the winter months. This includes items that are harvested in the fall or early winter and stored (like carrots, beets, winter squash, potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic, celeriac, etc.) as well as items that we harvest fresh for each box (kale, collards, Swiss Chard, broccoli, cauliflower, radicchio, cabbage, purple sprouting broccoli, etc.). You’ll usually receive 7-9 different vegetables in each box. See photos and sample boxes at right to get an idea of what to expect. We provide an e-newsletter with each box that includes a list of box contents and recipes.
Swap box Each drop site has a swap box stocked with a few extra veggies, and members may exchange one item for another. While we can't guarantee what will be in there — especially after other members have swapped out items — this allows for some flexibility if you have a dietary restriction or don't like a certain veggie.

If you’ll miss a box, you can let a friend or family member pick it up that week, or let us know in advance so we don't pack your box.
Bulk Box Option
If biweekly pick ups don't work for you, you may be interested in a bulk box. Our bulk box is a larger delivery of produce twice over the course of the season—once in November and again in January. You can sign up for one or both bulk boxes.
What's in the bulk box? The bulk box provides a larger volume of storage crops—winter squash, carrots, beets, potatoes, onions, garlic, cabbage, etc.—for you to store and eat over the ensuing months. The boxes will also contain an assortment of fresh items (kale, chard, broccoli, radicchio, cabbage, etc.) that are available at the time of distribution. See sample box at right. We'll provide an e-newsletter, recipes & storage tips with each bulk box.
Dates Our bulk box will be distributed twice this fall/winter on Wednesdays & Thursdays, depending on location.

Donate a Box
We believe that healthy, local, organic food should be available to everyone. We also realize this is a financial challenge for many people. Boldly Grown Farm is donating one full share to a family who could otherwise not participate in our CSA, and we're offering our members an opportunity to contribute to additional donated shares. We are happy to offer a way for our members to join us in supporting our community and offering fresh, local food to those in need. Look for the donate option on the registration page to contribute.
