Winter CSA Program Details

Boldly Grown Farm specializes in growing fall and winter crops. Our CSA is a chance for you to receive a biweekly supply of high-quality, locally grown, organic veggies during the typical off-season. (If you missed the primer on CSAs, check it out here!)

What's in a share?

Our CSA share consists of 10 biweekly boxes, each containing approximately 8-10 different items. Boxes include a core rotating cast of stalwart winter vegetables (carrots, beets, winter squash, potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic, cabbage, etc.) plus freshly harvested items (kale, collards, Swiss Chard, broccoli, cauliflower, radicchio, purple sprouting broccoli, etc.). Value-added products like sauerkraut, pickled peppers, dried peppers and chili flakes brighten up the winter months.

We offer a traditional CSA model in which we share with you the bounty of the season. Our boxes are not customizable, but we work to ensure you receive a diversity of items.

Share size

We offer one share size that's delivered every other week. We estimate this share works well for 2-4 people. We have satisfied members ranging from individuals to families depending on how many veggies they like to eat. Check out some of the photos and sample boxes on this page to get an idea of the quantity of veggies provided in each box. Visit our FAQ for more on share size.

Member engagement

We enjoy sharing our love of food and cooking with our members! Each box is accompanied by an extensive e-newsletter with tips, recipes, produce information and updates from the farm. Our members have consistently rated our newsletters as a highlight of our CSA program. We also provide members with a storage guide to maximize the life of your veggies. You'll have an opportunity to visit the farm during our fall visit day.

Cost

A winter CSA membership is $450. This investment covers your biweekly share of vegetables as well as program-specific costs like CSA management/registration software and credit card/e-check fees (calculated at approximately $2.50 per box).

The share cost can be pro-rated for one pre-planned absence / delivery date conflict prior to registering. If you know you'll miss a specific week due to vacation or overlap with a main-season CSA, this is a good option for you. Use the coupon code "MISSONE" during registration. See our FAQ and the CSA Member Agreement for more details on absences.

Payment

Program registration and payment is required to secure your spot. This season we are offering three payment plans:

  • One installment: One payment of $450 upon registration

  • Two installments: $225 upon registration and $225 on September 1st

  • Three installments: $150 upon registration, $150 on September 1st, and $150 on October 1st.

If you have the capacity to pay the full share cost up front, it's greatly appreciated! It significantly helps us cover the start-up costs of the growing season—one of the main benefits of the CSA model for farmers.

We accept e-checks (ACH transfer), credit cards, and paper checks (we encourage e-check payments to help reduce our processing fees). If paying for an installment plan by credit card or e-check, your card/account information will be securely stored and charged on the above noted payment dates.

Financial Aid Fund

We believe that healthy, local, organic food should be available to everyone. In pursuit of this goal, we donate at least one full share each season to a local family. We've also created a member-driven Financial Aid Fund to help make our program accessible to those who could not otherwise participate in our CSA.

We invite our members to contribute to the Financial Aid Fund as they are able. At our discretion, we will use it to offset some or all of share cost for members who express need for financial support.

Your support makes a big difference in our community and helps increase access to fresh, local food. We anticipate increased demand for the Financial Aid Fund this season. We encourage those members who have capacity to consider contributing as you are able!

Look for the option to contribute to the fund during the registration process (your donation charge will be distributed as per your chosen installment plan), and contact us if you're interested in accessing the fund.

Registration and Refunds

We use an online software called Farmigo to manage our CSA. You will need to create an account to join and pay (if you were a member a previous season, you will use the same account). We encourage you to sign up early to secure your space at your preferred drop site.

Depending on overall program and individual drop site capacity, we'll accept registrations after the program has begun, prorating the cost based on the remaining distribution dates.

Please see our CSA Member Agreement for detailed policies on absences, missed boxes and refunds/cancellations. We encourage you to review all of the CSA information on our website before you join to make sure it's a good fit. Your registration confirms you understand and accept the information on our website and the CSA Member Agreement
